Where to invest $100,000 right now

May 23, 2022

Good morning!

It’s great to be back after a week on the road with my buddy Matt. And even greater to see the markets attempting a comeback as I type!

Here’s my playbook.

1 – What to do with $100,000

The fabulous Stuart Varney asked me earlier this morning ahead of the opening bell if it’s too early to call the bottom … and I think the answer is yes. But, to a point we’ve talked about before, we’re closer than many people think.

He also asked me where I would invest $100,000 in today’s markets; here’s what I said. (Watch)

2 – How to score a quick buck in a beartrap

The pattern for the past few weeks has been to see a little buying then more selling. Today I’ll bet more than a few retail investors will be trying that. The problem is that the pros love to establish a “pattern”, then pull the rug out. I don’t get that sense yet but a rally ahead of yet another version of Fed Follies would be par for the course. Volatility will expand to the upside temporarily even as the put side collapses.

Might be a quick $ or two in both directions; similar to the setup I described a few weeks ago in real-time.

3 – Starbucks says “Do svidaniya”

Starbucks has announced that they’re exiting Russia after 15 years and, in doing so, closing the 130 licensed stores they have there. Despite the big deal being made about it in the media, this isn’t a needle-mover. Russian operations account for less than 1% of revenue.(Read)

4 – Pfizer vaccine shot for kids under 5 80% effective

Pfizer says that a 3rd Covid booster for children under 5 is 80% effective when it comes to preventing symptomatic Covid-19. The stock rose in premarket trading naturally. (Read)

5 – Didi’s done

I warned investors to steer clear of Chinese ridesharing company Didi when Bejing’s crackdown last July began saying that the company would ultimately delist in the US. More than a few people thought I was being overly dramatic but with decades of experience including a fair amount of time in mainland China, I didn’t think so.

Well, shareholders just voted to do that but now they’ve got another problem. Beijing has apparently denied permission to “float” ‘em in Hong Kong. (Read)

Bottom Line

All investments involve risk but not all risks are worth the investment!A lesson many are learning the hard way right now.

We WILL get through this and, odds are, probably a lot sooner than people think or are prepared to believe.

I will be with you every step of the way!

Thanks for being here and for making the “5 with Fitz” such a great place to be!
